Economy Hit or Miss Engine

Built by Neil Butterfield

This is a 1/4 scale model of the Economy Engine. It was a typical hit or miss gasoline engine, built by Hercules, of Canton, Ohio and sold through the Sears catalogue. A hit of miss engine has no throttle, but the speed is controlled by a fly-weight govenor which only allows fuel to flow when the engine slows below the governed speed. This engine was built by Neil Butterfield, of Phoenix, Arizona, a transplanted New Yawker. Click on his name for more information.
